Frequently asked questions

What is one-to-one online tutoring at IB Demystified?

One-to-one online tutoring at IB Demystified means personalised, individual lessons delivered live via Zoom. Each session is tailored to the student's subject, level, learning style, and academic goals, ensuring focused support and faster progress.

How are tutors matched to students?

You tell us the subject, the level, and what is actually going wrong — a topic that will not stick, a paper that went badly, a deadline coming up. We match you with a tutor who teaches that exact subject at that exact level and who has worked with students in the same position, rather than whoever happens to be free.

How do we know if the tutor is the right fit?

You meet them before you pay for anything. The free meeting is with a tutor, not a salesperson, so you can see how they explain things and whether your child is comfortable with them.

If it still is not right after the first paid session, tell us and we will find you someone else.

What's your cancellation policy?

Lessons cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours' notice can be moved free of charge. Lessons cancelled with less notice, or missed without warning, may count as used.

If a tutor has to cancel, the lesson is rescheduled at no cost to you and the hour is not deducted. The full wording is in our Terms and Conditions.

Can I book a trial before committing?

Yes. Book a free 30-minute meeting, online, with no payment and no card details.

Bring a paper or a piece of work that went badly and you will see how an examiner would actually mark it. You leave with a clear next step whether or not you book any tutoring.

Can one-to-one tutoring help improve exam performance?

That is most of what it is for. Sessions concentrate on where marks are actually being lost — command terms, working that is not shown, timing, the steps a mark scheme expects to see — rather than re-teaching topics a student already understands.

Our tutors include practising IB examiners, so they are telling you what earns marks from experience of marking, not from guesswork.

Are one-to-one sessions flexible with scheduling?

Yes. Sessions are arranged around your timetable, including evenings and weekends, and our tutors work across time zones, so wherever you are there is a sensible hour available.

You can also change the pattern as the year goes on. Plenty of students start with one session a fortnight and move to weekly, or more, in the run-up to exams.

What happens during a typical one-to-one session?

An hour live on Zoom, one tutor and one student, on a shared screen so you can both write on the same question.

You normally start with whatever you brought — a question you are stuck on, a past paper, a piece of coursework — and work through it together. The tutor finishes by setting something specific to do before the next session, so the work carries on between lessons.
